CeLRRd hold workshop on Human Rights and Victim’s Rights with administrative staffs of Judicial and Quasi Judicial Bodies in Sunsari District on 21st April, 2018 with an aim to protect victims’ right and develop victim friendly environment in these institutions. Hon’ble District Judge Binod Kumar Gautam and District Registrar Nawaraj Acharya jointly facilitated the workshop.
In general, we don’t find victim friendly environment in security and justice institutions. While seeking justice, victims have to approach office administration frequently. But most of the administrative staffs of these institutions even don’t know about the importance of victim friendly behavior and victims’ right. As a result of their insensitive behavior, victims feel being re-victimized and get discouraged to approach these institutions again.
The workshop basically focused on victim rights and reason why it should be respected and promoted by all the participants of the workshop. Hon’ble Judge Gautam stated “Judicial bodies are the guardian that protects the rights of the people. Staffs of Court and other quasi-judicial bodies should always be pro-active and sensitive towards respecting and promoting Victim’s rights. And this will raise the belief of public on judicial system.”
In total, 29 administrative staffs from various judicial and quasi-judicial bodies including District Court, District Police Office and District Attorney Office, District Administrative Office, District Forest Office and District Women and Children office of Sunsari participated in the training. Participants realized that the issue of the workshop was very significant to them and committed to use it in their daily chores. Additionally, they recommended conducting the program nationwide as insensitive behavior to victim has developed as inherent culture in Judicial System.
