CeLRRd conducted an 8-day residential Training of Trainers on Basic Mediation on 24 June- 1 July in Butwal. The training, which was conducted with the view to develop trainers for conducting Basic Mediation to community mediators, produced well-trained trainers capable of conducting training for community mediation as a mode of alternative dispute resolution in ..VDCs and ..Municipalities of four districts – Nawlaparasi, Rupandehi, Kapilvastu and Dang.
The trainees were imparted with knowledge and skills on disputes and their nature/causes, mediation related mechanisms, practice, tradition; basic norms of community mediation; position, interests and issues of disputants and caucus. In order to translate gained knowledge into practice, each stage of mediation processes was followed by role plays among the training participants.
Also, participants were delivered knowledge and skills on additional skills of mediation such as BATNA/WATNA and Dirty Tricks by linking the overall subject matters with human rights, conflict resolution and gender based violence, among others.
