Two separate coordination meetings with government anti-trafficking stakeholders and influential community intellectuals were held in Kanchanpur and Banke on 28 February and 6 March 2011 respectively to control trafficking in persons. Altogether 57 stakeholders participated in the meetings. CeLRRd has long been working in anti-trafficking advocacy and vulnerable groups\’ empowerment in Kanchanpur and Banke, and in the recent support of TAF, it has undertaken protection and prosecution components. The meetings helped to acknowledge the stakeholders about CTIP program to be implemented in 20 different VDCs of the districts and made appeals for establishing and strengthening coordination amongst them. The VDCs that CeLRRd would be working in are Kohalpur , Chisapani, Bankatawa, Naubasta, Titiriha, Bageshwory, Sitapur, Radhapur , Saigaun and Mahadevpuri of Banke district and Dohara, Chandani, Daijee, Dekhatbhuli, Parasan, Kalikow, Tribhuwanbasti, Laxmipur, Shankarpur, Sripur of Kanchanpur district.
Chief Judge Durga Prasad Uprety of Appellate Court, Mahendranagar, chairing the program contended that open border, poverty, illiteracy, and ignorance are some of the major factors helping trafficking. Therefore, as also said by Judge Dilli Raj Acharya, more awareness raising campaigns are needed to reduce trafficking incidents.
Resham Bahadur Pandey, Chief District Officer chairing Banke program appreciated the initiative taken by CeLRRd for addressing the trafficking issue. Other attendees including LDO, WDO, District Attorney and representatives from different women and children welfare organizations and journalists committed for the possible supports on their parts. Such commitments are expected to boost the program outputs.
