Rama, residing in Ramghat, Surkhet was married to Ram for the last 44 years. However, their cordial marital relationship lasted for just two years following their marriage. Afterwards, Ream started to indulge in alcoholism as he stayed in India for few months in the course of labour words. Physical violence upon Rama then became a routine activity and she, with no option left, habituated to silently endure this. Once she was even admitted to a hospital for the injuries she received after her husband beat her severely. Eventually, he even started to sell household utensils, animals and small pieces of land without the consent of the family. When the situation turned the worst after 42 years, one day she happened to register an application in the nearby Ramghat CMC.
As the mediators were trained to give psychological counseling in such cases, they could handle the situation very effectively. One of the mediators simply put forward few striking queries like how much he had been wasting for four glasses of alcohol and one packet of cigarette per day, and what he lost during all these years. Though Ram was aware of the bad situation, he never ever realized that he had lost so many things in his life just because of consuming alcohol, he said. He genuinely felt guilty for this and apologized to Rama. She was also happy to see a drastic change in his thought and behavior, and therefore easily forgave him. He committed to forsake the bad habit and shoulder the familial responsibility. Thus, all those years of violence ultimately ended up in few hours which was nothing less than a magic.
