SP Meera Chaudhary who was working in Makwanpur District Police Office is proactive by her nature. In order to strengthen the service of women cell and make it victim friendly, she held interaction with CeLRRd Makawanpur team including the field-visiting central level team in connection to provide legal support for police institution She wanted us to support victim in drafting FIR/applications and, if required, provide legal counseling to them and committed to provide us space and furniture within the premises of police station for providing the service.
CeLRRd accepted the request and started to provide legal support to them on Monday at the initial phase. And viewing the importance of the service and additional request of SP Meera Chaudhary to the central management team of CeLRRd, currently the support is being provided thrice a week on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and even as per the need of victim on other days.
As per the CeLRRd advocate who is assigned for the job, most of the women victims don’t know how to write applications and they can’t even express themselves clearly. Now, as we are providing legal counseling and writing FIR for them, it is strengthening their cases, as their FIR complement to their testimony in the Court. Moreover, if required, we represent the cases of needy victim even in the court. So, the service is being very useful in ensuring the access to justice to the women victim of Makwanpur district. And it has set the good example of government-non government organizations collaborative approach in addressing victims’ need.
