Sankha Bahadur Nepali (name changed),65, Resident of Phulasi VDC of Ramechhap district never lived happily in his old age. He married with 4 women but never had any child and not even they stayed with him. He did arranged marriage for the first time but his wife left him after a year. Then he married to the second woman and she also left him after a couple of years. In this fashion he married 4 times and none of them stayed with him. So he could not establish his family.
“I somehow managed to eke out a living while I was active and my body was aiding but I was never at peace with myself, said Sankha Bahadur Nepali”. He lost his only remaining life support, mother, five years ago. His wife had already left him and his brother and sister-in law were living separately from his mother. He had no one to fall back on. A dejected and devastated, Sankha’s body also gave up as he fell ill after his mother’s death. The situation got compounded as he could not till his land. Sankhaman’s situation worsened as his only living support –brother and sister remained indifferent to his plight. This situation came to the notice by the coordinator of community mediator center Kanchi Maya Tamang. Then after she took initiation to improve his condition and consulted with community mediators after the consultation, Sankha’s brother and sister-in-law were invited to the mediation center. In the meeting, Sankha agreed to let his relatives till his land and also handover the very land to them after his death. He also consented to give half of the old age allowance to his brother’s family to run the daily household chores. The community mediator Tamang also facilitated the process for Sankhar to obtain the compensation for earthquake victim which was stalled owing to the latter’s loss of citizenship. In the meeting held in mediation center it was agreed that Sankha’s brother would help him to rebuild his damaged house. Hence, as a result of effort putting by CeLRRd’s community mediator Sankha, has now being reunited with his family and is living happily.
