In order to implement Sajhedhari Bikaas Project supported by the USAID in new project districts affected by earthquake i.e Lamjung, Gorkha, Dhading, Makawanpur and Ramechhap districts, an 8-day residential ToT on the project especially focusing on Basic Mediation Training was accomplished between 22-29 April in which 18 staff members of the project(District Project Coordinators and Trainers) comprising of 5 female and 13 males representing from the project districts were the participants.
The main objective of the training was to promote target community people’s access to justice through ADR especially to protect women and girls from various forms of GBV and to create an enabling environment in communities for local development by mitigating grievances and local disputes. After the training, the participants are supposed to implement Community Mediation Program for mitigation of grievances and disputes in 60 VDC’s of earthquake affected areas of Sajhedari Bikaas Project.
The training was designed based on the curriculum prescribed by the Mediation Council with additional skills necessary for trainers. All the participants actively participated and increased their knowledge and skills on mediation (as proven by pre and post tests conducted during the training) in the training. Mr. Sudeep Gautam, director of CeLRRd, Rammani Gautam, Program Manager of the organization and Chetraj Bhatta, Project Coordinator facilitated the training while Dr. Kumar Sharma Acharya, member of Mediation Council) was the lead Lead trainer.
CeLRRd has been implementing mediation programs in more than 20 districts of the country with the view to resolve local level disputes ultimately to create a peaceful local environment. Considering the devastating earthquake that occurred in 2015 jolting central part of the country, the organization, via Sajhedari Bikaas Project supported by the USAID, extended the program keeping possible conflicts that could arise locally in the course of efforts on the part of the Government of Nepal and other national and the international agencies in the post-earthquake recovery phase in the affected districts. The program however will be implemented in a total of 60 VDCs of Lamjung, Gorkha, Dhading, Makawanpur and Ramechhap districts.
