Seema Panta and Bishnu Dhakal of Nawalparasi were married after having an affair. However, the family members of Bishnu were not happy with this relationship. Therefore, Bishnu thought to keep Seema separately, and rented a house. After some years, they had a baby girl and named her Prapti. As the days passed by, Bishnu decided to rejoin his family members which meant leaving Seema alone. So she went to her parents’ home with her daughter. Bishnu remarried to another girl arranged by his parents without the consent of Seema. Poor Seema could not even resist it. Further, he started to ignore Seema and her daughter and hence, they underwent a financial crisis. When he denied himself as the baby’s father, it became intolerable for her and eventually she resorted to the victims’ legal aid program provided by the organization, as recommended to her by a neighbor. The VLA lawyer called on Bishnu to discuss the matter and afterwards only he became ready to have the baby’s birth registered. Seema, a self-esteemed woman filed for a divorce upon which the district court decided positively. She ultimately got a divorce with some share on her property.
