Sundari Bhar was married at the age of 10 in Ramgram MC, Nawalparasi. She was a 3rd grader at the time of her marriage. After 5 years of the marriage, at the age of 15, she went to her husband’s house wherein she underwent mental and physical torture on every single issue. Once she was even compelled to leave home. After such torture, she approached CeLRRd’s office for legal aid. As she knew only Bhojpuri, she was provided legal counseling in Bhojpuri language, and the case was registered at the police station. Police then called on her in- laws for the discussion. Her in-laws apologized for their misbehavior. She then returned to her home with a hope that everything would be alright. However, after two days, she overheard her in-laws making a plan to murder her, and hence, she escaped from her house and reached CeLRRd’s office in Nawalparasi. She was sent to a shelter home managed by Maiti Nepal, wherein she was enrolled for a six months tailoring training. On her behalf, CeLRRd filed a case of divorce with property to put an end to all sufferings. It also managed to have her citizenship certificate issued with a great hardship. Finally, the district court decided for a divorce with the partition of property. After finishing the training, she bought a sewing machine and started tailoring for her livelihood. Thus, CeLRRd’s support became very important to give justice to her and at least to secure a means of sustaining her life.
