Giriraj Bhandari and Topala Bhandari, the residents of Karhiya VDC ward no-8 were traditionally married in 2017 B.S. Afterwards they had five daughters. But Giriraj accused and mistreated Topila for not giving birth to a son. Then, one day long years back, he left the home.
With hardship, Topala alone took care of five daughters, provided education, and also married them off. After some years, Giriraj returned home, but with no change in his behaviour towards Topala. They had fights every day. Meanwhile, Giriraj was having illicit relationship with a woman of Makar VDC, with whom he later did second marriage. Though he did not talk with Topala, he used to go home 2/3 times a month.
One day Topala came to know that Giriraj was planning to sell the property of her ownership without consulting her. Topala feared because she was left with nobody to take care of in her old age. If the property was also sold, she would have nowhere to go and live in. Therefore, she registered the dispute at the mediation centre.
During the mediation session, Topala expressed her sorrows with tears while Giriraj on the other hand was sitting with heavy heart. Mediators let them to talk with each other. They expressed all their feelings and emotions kept for many years in their hearts. They cried, and yelled at each other. Finally Giriraj accepted his fault. At the end, Giriraj agreed to not selling the property, giving an additional piece of fertile land and also to support in building a two-room house. They also agreed to respect each other. As per the agreements made, Giriraj supported financially in building the house; their relationship gradually improved. He has now started taking care of Topala, and now she does not feel complete isolation, finds someone to listen to her feelings.
